Wanderburg Performance and Crash Fixes

Use this Wanderburg performance guide to separate documented 0.9.6 fixes from safe troubleshooting when the live game or an old demo reference misbehaves.

For Wanderburg performance or crash problems, update the Steam build, restart the game and Steam, verify installed files, then report a repeatable symptom through the official Discord if it continues. The 0.9.6 hotfix supplies useful symptom matches: Ground Fire performance, enemy-wheel behavior, Ram behavior and visuals, special selection, map boundaries, enemy sound, and Overworld selection all received launch-day work.

Use this five-minute first response

Start in Steam: let any pending Wanderburg update finish, close the game, restart Steam, and launch a fresh run. Then open the installed game's Steam Properties and run Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files. This sequence preserves your official installation while it checks for damaged or missing files. If the issue appears only after several consecutive runs, record that detail before testing again; it is much more actionable than a general “it froze.”

For a frozen screen with audio still playing, input locked, or a forced-close requirement, write down the GPU, what happened just before the freeze, and whether a full game restart changes the result. A recent Steam Community player report described that pattern after consecutive runs on an AMD GPU. Treat it as a useful report template, rather than a confirmed diagnosis: the practical next action is to reproduce it on the updated build and send the details to the official Discord.

The official Steam demo was retired on September 8, 2026 when Early Access launched. Randwerk said it had changed too much since March to represent the released game. Use the live Steam version for troubleshooting and keep a historical demo video separate from a current test.

If a search led here through “demo crash fix,” identify what is actually running before changing anything. The official current product is the Windows PC Steam release. If Steam identifies the current game installation, the issue belongs to the live build. If the material is an old demo executable, video, or cache reference, there may be no current supported reproduction path because the demo is no longer offered as the release representation.

This distinction saves time. A fix shown for an old demo can be obsolete, and an Early Access launch hotfix can alter the behavior a video is trying to address. What the 0.9.6 hotfix explicitly changed

The Steam Community announcement for 0.9.6 was published on September 8, 2026. It says the update fixed important bugs, adjusted balance, and asked players to report whether the fixes worked. In the systems and performance section, the announcement explicitly says that Ground Fire performance was improved, the statistics overlay was removed, and the stats keyboard shortcut changed from Alt to Ctrl.

The same update records several stability or behavior fixes: enemy wheel issues involving Enemy Ballista and Metzelmann, Ram Tier 3 visuals, Special Selection issues, Ram behavior, protection against teleporting outside the map, missing FMOD sound events for enemies, and Overworld selection issues. It also added an Overworld collider and prevention for teleporting outside the playable area.

Use the hotfix as a fast symptom map. If Ground Fire slows the game down, first update and re-test that specific effect. If the issue involves an enemy wheel, Ram Tier 3 visuals, Special Selection, Ram behavior, selection on the Overworld, escaping the map, or missing enemy FMOD sound, re-test it on 0.9.6 before filing the report. The current shortcut for statistics is Ctrl, not Alt. The patch also added an Overworld collider and map-boundary protection, so include the map and position if your issue looks related to movement or terrain.

Use a safe troubleshooting order

When the issue is not named in the announcement, complete the five-minute sequence above and change one variable at a time. Re-test after the restart; then re-test after verification. Keep the same biome, action, and build context where possible. That makes it easier to tell whether an effect is a one-off interruption, a reproducible bug, or a condition tied to a particular run.

Then reproduce the issue with the fewest moving parts possible. Note the current displayed version, the date, the location or action that triggers it, whether it is repeatable, and whether it began after the 0.9.6 hotfix. Disable optional overlays or capture tools one at a time if they are involved, rather than changing multiple settings and losing the cause. Keep screenshots or short recordings where the official reporting channel permits them.

Avoid downloading “crack,” “Skidrow,” or unofficial patch files in response to a crash. Those files do not establish that they match the current Early Access build and can create a separate security or compatibility problem. The confirmed acquisition route is explained in Release & Steam, and the official community is listed in Community and Language Reference.

Know when a symptom is gameplay, not performance

Not every surprising result is a technical fault. The 0.9.6 hotfix changed enemy composition in Grassland 3 and Dark Forest 2 and 3, reduced the Dark Tower health on Difficulty 1, adjusted Grassland 1 damage, and changed several tools. A run that feels different after an update may reflect a balance change rather than a frame-time or crash problem.

Separate the report into categories. A measurable slowdown, freeze, missing sound, visual defect, or selection failure is a technical observation. A different enemy pressure pattern or changed tool behavior can be a balance observation. A confusion about when to challenge a stronger fortress is a gameplay question for the beginner guide. Clear categories make a community report easier for others to reproduce and less likely to turn an opinion into a bug claim.

The hotfix also demonstrates why this article has a version marker. A later update may fix a problem, reintroduce a behavior, or change a key shortcut. Recheck the official announcement feed before presenting a launch-day workaround as permanent advice.

Report with evidence the developers can use

The 0.9.6 post directs players to Discord both to report new bugs and to see whether an issue has already been reported. Before posting, search the available report or discussion channels so you can add information to an existing thread rather than fragmenting the evidence. Use the official Discord linked by the reference page, not a community invite from an unverified download page.

A useful report names the current Steam build, the operating context, a concise repeatable sequence, the expected result, and the actual result. State whether file verification changed anything and whether the issue continues after a clean restart. Do not include personal account details, credentials, or unrelated private files. If a crash log is requested, follow the official channel's current instructions instead of uploading it to a random mirror.

Use the same order for every new issue: update, restart, verify, reproduce, and report. It gives you a clean current-build baseline and gives the developers the information they need to triage the next patch.

Sources and review date

The documented changes and Discord-reporting direction come from the Wanderburg 0.9.6 Hotfix announcement. The demo retirement statement comes from the September 8 launch announcement. Both were checked on September 9, 2026.

When a newer official hotfix appears, this page should be reviewed before its build marker is updated. Send a correction with the official announcement URL and the affected version to support@wanderburgguide.wiki.
