Choose Wanderburg artifacts around your equipped attacks: Reset Lever for ability reuse after a level-up, Magma Core for cannonball ground impacts, Tinderbox for spreading existing fire, and Running Shoes for an army that cannot keep up. For recovery, Repair Wrench trades an upgrade choice for a fixed 25 HP in 0.9.14. Start with the problem your current run needs to solve, then compare the matching effects below.
Make the choice in three checks
Read the card's target, trigger, and payoff in that order. A target can be an arrow, a burning enemy, a cannonball, or your own health; the trigger might be a hit, kill, contact, level-up, or discarded upgrade. Then ask whether the payoff helps with the reason you are losing the current run. A fire effect with no reliable ignition, for example, is a future plan rather than an immediate answer to a dangerous boss.
If two offers both work, prefer the one that addresses the present bottleneck: staying alive, landing attacks, clearing groups, or reusing an active ability. The Modules guide identifies attack types and slots; Progression explains your reroll budget. Effect descriptions below use the linked community card references, with patch changes checked against Randwerk's announcements.
Repair Wrench: decide with missing HP, not maximum HP
Randwerk changed Repair Wrench from 25% healing to a flat 25 HP in 0.9.14. At 100 maximum HP, 25% and 25 HP happen to be equal. At 200 maximum HP, the former value would have been 50 HP, while the current base value remains 25 HP.
At an upgrade offer, use its discard-for-healing option when the recovery matters more than the offered improvement. Compare the heal with your missing HP: at 180/200 HP, only 20 HP can fit; at 150/200 HP, the full 25 HP fits but still leaves you below full health. If your next fight is survivable and an offered damage upgrade would shorten it, keeping the upgrade can prevent more future damage than healing now.
| Maximum HP | Old 25% figure | 0.9.14 base heal | What changes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 100 | 25 HP | 25 HP | The two figures coincide. |
| 200 | 50 HP | 25 HP | The old high-health estimate is twice the current base heal. |
| 400 | 100 HP | 25 HP | More maximum HP no longer scales this base heal. |
These examples use the base heal before other modifiers. If you cannot survive until the next upgrade offer, take a safe route to another recovery source instead of waiting in combat.
Tinderbox: ignite first, then look for contact
Tinderbox spreads fire when a burning enemy touches another enemy. Establish a fire source first, then lead a pursuing group through the same area so enemies can meet while burning. Fire Mage or Side Flamethrower can provide the initial fire; Tinderbox turns that ignition into a spreading opportunity. A compact pursuing group offers more contact opportunities than an isolated boss.
0.9.14 includes a Tinderbox bug fix. If a spread still fails, watch the first burning target: did it reach a second enemy before dying or losing its burn? That distinguishes an opportunity that never occurred from a card effect that failed after contact.
Electric Arrow: use an arrow source against groups
Electric Arrow adds chain lightning to arrows, making Side Ballista or Archer Tower relevant sources. It is a group-clear choice: aim to keep additional enemies near the arrow's target. Against a lone boss, compare an available direct arrow-damage bonus such as Iron Bow or Golden Bow instead. Electric Mage produces a different attack type; its name alone does not activate an arrow effect. Hotfix 0.9.10 improved Electric Arrow's trigger reliability.
Reset Lever: turn one level-up into another useful cast
Reset Lever restores module cooldowns when you level up. Reset Button instead refills nitro. Choose Lever when multiple useful abilities spend substantial time cooling down; choose Button when fuel is the reason your escape fails.
To make a Lever reset count:
- Notice when your next level is close and leave a safe collection route.
- Use a ready ability on a worthwhile target before collecting the Gold that completes the level.
- After selecting the upgrade, check your refreshed abilities and use the next one while its target is still in a useful position.
A level-up while all skills are ready saves no waiting time. Collecting through enemy fire to force a reset can cost more than the extra cast is worth. In a boss fight with few safe pickups, keep a normal cooldown plan as well.
Triangulator uses a different trigger: three different active abilities within three seconds refund 20% of their cooldowns. Compare it when your normal rotation already uses three skills together. Two casts of the same skill do not meet the three-different-abilities condition; spending your only escape solely to finish the sequence can leave the castle trapped.
Cannon, fire and summon effects: choose the right event
These cards reward different moments in a fight. Use this comparison when several offers sound like they improve the same weapon.
| Artifact | Effect or trigger | Where it helps |
|---|---|---|
| Magma Core | Cannonballs create fire craters when they hit the ground. | An impact zone enemies must cross, including before a kill. |
| Cluster Core | A cannonball kill on an enemy vehicle triggers a projectile explosion. | Packs containing vehicles your cannon can finish. |
| Napalm | Enemy vehicles killed by fire leave fire craters. | A fire build clearing vehicles along the pursuit route. |
| Running Shoes | Boosting accelerates friendly units. | Barracks or Companion units that are falling behind. |
| Fast Quiver | Arrow kills accelerate arrow-ability cooldowns. | Arrow builds fighting several targets between active attacks. |
For example, Magma Core can help establish a fire zone before the first vehicle dies, whereas Cluster Core needs a cannonball vehicle kill and Napalm needs a fire vehicle kill. Against a boss without smaller enemies, kill-triggered effects have fewer opportunities. Take them for the encounters you can actually create, rather than treating every fire crater as the same trigger.
For Running Shoes, use a short boost to bring allies with you, then stay near a reachable target so they can fight. Raising your own boost speed and accelerating friendly units solve different movement problems. The Side Barracks section explains troop damage upgrades and positioning.
Pair an Artifact with your build's actual attack
For the Ram build, compare melee and movement effects with your collision attack. For cannons, distinguish cannonball damage, ground impacts and kills. For Spiderburg with two Top modules, a Top-slot effect and an arrow-only effect have different coverage even if both are damage upgrades. Match the card's position label and attack-type icon separately.
The practical order is equipped weapon → its attack type and slot → effect you can trigger. If you change to a special branch with a different projectile or troop type, check those icons again before your next Artifact choice.
Reroll the wrong job, not merely an unfamiliar name
In 0.9.14 every run starts with two Artifact Rerolls. The earlier 0.9.10 rule adds one Artifact Reroll for every six permanently unlocked Artifacts; six unlocked Modules instead award a New Module Reroll. For zero to five unlocked Artifacts the two published rules imply two starting Artifact Rerolls; at six to eleven they imply three. The Progression guide gives the full count examples and separates these resources.
Before spending one, state the job the offer must do. If the three cards cannot activate with your loadout and none addresses the next danger, rerolling has a clear purpose. If a compatible defensive or damage effect is already present, a reroll spent chasing a famous name may leave no option for a later bad offer. The published bonus rules do not reveal the hidden offer pool or guarantee a named Artifact will appear.
